Our beautiful ceramics come from a small factory in rural Andalucia in southern Spain. The white clay is formed into bowls, jugs, dishes etc. using traditional machinery.
The pieces are then fired to harden them before they are dipped into a white glaze.
They then pass to the painting area where wonderfully skilled ladies hand paint each piece. The painting is all done free-hand with a lot of chatter and laughing. It is such a joy to see the ladies so happy in their work. Many are related to each other.
After painting, the pots are dipped into a white glaze again and left to dry for a while. They are then fired to harden and finally bring out the vibrant colours of the finished pieces.
The colours are all mixed using these samples to make sure that each piece matches.
